YES to a GREENER COMMUNITY

Becoming a Green Community in 2010, Andover committed to reduce its use of energy throughout municipal functions, including buildings, vehicles, street lights and water and sewer systems by 20%.

The new school will be ultra high efficiency and will have the capacity for the installation of rooftop solar panels which would allow for much of the school’s energy needs to be produced on-site. It will be an all-electric building, will not use fossil fuels, and will have at least a LEED Silver Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design— a green building certification program used worldwide). The new building will have an EUI (Energy Use Intensity) of 35 with a realistic goal of reaching 25 EUI. The current West El operates at 105 EUI. It also will have a rooftop garden and provide many opportunities for outdoor learning.

Having two “green” schools further enhances Andover as a community committed to greening.
