Bring our Andover students into a 21st century learning environment with a new West Elementary/ Shawsheen Preschool! Come on in for a virtual tour from the Architects!

On June 5th AND June 15th, Andover voters will decide whether construction of a new facility to replace West Elementary School and Shawsheen Preschool, built in 1951 and 1923, will move forward as planned.

The schedule for the votes is:

  • Saturday, June 5th – Annual Town Meeting Vote on the grounds of Andover High School starting at 9 a.m. The project needs 2/3rd approval to pass.
  • Tuesday, June 15th – Ballot Vote. Town votes by ballot on a debt exclusion to fund the project outside of Proposition 2 1/2 (simple majority needed).

The decision to replace West Elementary School and Shawsheen Preschool is the culmination of 5+ years of analysis and planning by the West Elementary & Shawsheen Preschool School Building Committee, Andover residents, the Andover School Committee, Andover town governance, the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), SMMA Architects, and PMA Consultants.

This vote is vitally important to our community as it ensures our eligibility for a $38M grant from the MSBA for this project, solves Andover’s elementary school over-crowding issues and relieves the burden of maintaining two outdated schools which are beyond their usable lives.

A “NO” vote means…

NO $38,000,000 MSBA grant

NO resolution to the over-crowding in Andover elementary schools

NO future funding from the MSBA for Andover High School or Doherty Middle School

NO solution to the problem of maintaining two out-dated schools whose condition and suitability were rated “poor” and “unsatisfactory” 5 years ago by MGT of America Consulting, LLC
